Quran Surah:18 Ayah:27-28
“And recite what has been revealedto you of the Book of your Lord. There is no one to change His words, and you will never find a refuge besideHim.”
Just before these verses, there has been mentioned the episode of the ‘People of Cave’. This event was actually revealed on a demand from the chieftains of Quraish. On one hand, this event aims at establishing the Apostleship of the Holy Prophet ﷺ, on the other hand, it also aims at imparting a message to the believers in the hard time of Makkah before the migration that it had been customary with the believers to sacrifice themselves to keep themselves steadfast on the right path. Thereafter, there had been given some points of instructions in these verses in view of the specific condition of Makkah. As even these days situation is similar to that of Makkah, we also find some points of guidance through these verses. Some of them are as follows:
- When the enemies of Islam are exhausted having tried all their tricks to wipe out the Muslims from the surface of the earth, the next step they take is that they begin to plan something about making treaty with the believers. They expect the believers come in tune with them when and how they please. Thus, there also come some demands from the chieftains of Quraish as:

Quran Surah:10 Ayah:15
“Bring aQur’an other than this, or makechanges in it (to suit our fancies).”the other?
In a sense it meant that they could favour and support the believers if they this demand. What the verses appearing above meant is to refute their demand and further aimed at giving them just what has been revealed from Allah, the Almighty as none has the right to make any modification or amendments in it. By chance, only if any one desires to do so, he will be taken to the task and none can get escape from Allah’s hold and punishment.
Even today, there are also made some objections on Islamic teachings and demands to make some amendments in them. As a result, some innocent and guidelesspeople opt to agree with them seeing the demand of time while there is no room for such things in Islam, since no one has any right to interfere in religious affairs except Allah and His Messenger.Hence, all types of such demands are subject to the refutation.
- Secondly, what these verses aim at revealing to us is that when we such types of demands from the enemies of Islam we presume that the hearts of disbelievers are being somewhat inclined towards us and hence we should pay a prime attention towards them. But, at this point, what we should keep in our mind is not to overlook those who have been deserving our attention with regard to their teaching and spiritual training, since these are the people who have devoutedthemselves to this noble cause no matter if they were socially and financially backward and downtrodden, yet, they come in our favour, then we must regard them as a a greatest asset to us. Thus, in no way, they should be overlooked.
There also lies an important message in it for those different sects and movements who are making all-out efforts to make Islam dominate the rest of religions as to not concentrate only on those who are new advocates of their mission, rather, they should also try their level best for the advancement and purification those who are already supporting us.
- Side by side other instructions, it also has been pointed out to this fact that we should also keep in mind the rational reasons for not meeting the demands of those who want to make treaty with us.
One of those reasons is that they did not cease to practice arrogance and haughtiness yet. They have not even believed in the greatness of Allah, the Almighty and it is for this reason that they are unmindful of Allah’s remembrance. Thus, how can one fulfill the right of Allah’s worship who is unmindful of it?
Secondly, one who follows his own whims and wishes can never do justice with Allah’s obedience as it deserves
Thirdly, the dealings of whose people are not well-balanced and rather fall a victim to go to exceeds– leading to destruction – are not worthy being followed and acceptable. We should also analyze those who put such demands before us and keep all these things in our mind. Despite of it, if the same situation remains, we must reject it while accept it wholeheartedly if we some commendable changes in it.
- In the same context, it also has been warned that seeing them in power and progressive, keeping any step in avarice may cause to lose our faith and belief. Hence, we should never take any decision keeping all these materialistic things in our mind, rather we should see either if they favour us sincerely or not as well as either they submit themselves to Islam fully without any condition or not? They are really respectable if they do it with intention to seek Allah’s pleasure and full submission and therefore they should be given a warm welcome at once.
May Allah, the Almighty grant us Taufique to act upon all these things! (Ameen!)
